Employee retention has become an important aspect of HR and management work in recent years. The reasons for this include demographic change and the associated shortage of skilled workers, a greater tendency for Generation Y to fluctuate and a general increase in activities with regard to a good employer brand. Various approaches and instruments play a role here, both in literature and in practice. One of the most important approaches is dedicated to organizational commitment. It describes the extent to which people feel a sense of belonging and connection to their organization or parts of the organization. It develops in particular on the basis of the characteristics "that make a job appear interesting and valuable". Once a positive attitude towards the organization has been formed and consolidated, it can be assumed to be relatively long-lasting. A lack of commitment, on the other hand, leads to fluctuation, higher absenteeism and negative work behavior.
