Greenwashing, often referred to as "greenwashing", is when products or behaviors are presented as more environmentally friendly than they actually are. This includes, in particular, sustainability promises that contain exaggerated, false or misleading statements. It is therefore often only possible to distinguish between greenwashing and a company's genuine commitment to the environment after taking a closer look. There are various types of greenwashing: contradictory statements, obfuscation/distraction, unclear statements, lack of evidence or unrecognized labels.
