Attractive tourism

Becoming an attractive employer with online training
The FH Salzburg and FH Kufstein are working on an Interreg EU project together with the Standortagentur Tirol and Chiemgau Tourismus to improve the attractiveness of tourism as an employer in the Salzburg, Tirol and Chiemgau regions.

The shortage of skilled workers in the tourism industry presents companies with major challenges and has once again been highlighted by the coronavirus pandemic. Qualified workers are hard to find and highly competitive. But how can this be counteracted? How can the hotel and catering industry be an attractive employer and be perceived as such?

This is precisely where the Interreg EU project "Attractive Tourism" comes in and has set itself the goal of improving the image of tourism as an attractive employer. As a cross-border project with the regions of Tyrol, Salzburg and Chiemgau, the first step was for experts from Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and Kufstein University of Applied Sciences to analyze the situational structure of the tourism industry in terms of employer attractiveness. Two offers were developed based on the data collected:

  • Digital assessment tool: In short, regular surveys, employees can provide feedback on processes in their company in digital form. This allows managers to see at a glance which processes are working well and where there is a need for optimization. Active participation also strengthens employee loyalty and identification with the company. The tool also enables benchmarking with other companies in the sector.
  • Online training program: The seminars for managers in the hotel and catering industry are based on innovative management concepts and a comprehensive empirical analysis. The content and structure are adapted to the specific challenges of the tourism industry. Managers receive targeted training in the areas of employee retention, recruiting, design thinking, new work, coaching and mentoring and organizational development. In addition to specialist input from experts and practical examples, the seminars offer the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience in plenary sessions and in smaller groups.

All courses can be booked individually and are available free of charge, as is the digital assessment tool as part of the Interreg project "Attractive Tourism". The project partners are the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, the Standortagentur Tirol and Chiemgau Tourismus. In addition, numerous tourism associations and tourism schools support the project as associated partners.
