Tourism awareness in Tyrol

What do the locals think about Tyrolean tourism? (2018-2019)
In a study, MCI Tourism examined the tourism awareness of Tyroleans and their attitude towards tourism.

After more than 20 years since the last survey of this kind, 1,500 Tyroleans aged 16 and over were interviewed by telephone in the first half of 2019 about their attitudes towards tourism. The survey also forms the basis for the further development of the Tyrolean Way, the tourism strategy of the province of Tyrol. As previous studies have shown that the economic and geographical "proximity" of locals has an influence on tourism awareness, all Tyrolean municipalities were divided according to their tourism intensity - calculated on the basis of overnight stays per inhabitant.

98% of Tyroleans rate the economic importance and significance of tourism as high. 92% see tourism as an important employer. 67% see tourism as an attractive employer - but only 35% associate jobs in tourism with a positive image.

82% say that important facilities and infrastructure measures such as swimming pools, cable cars and local suppliers would not exist without tourism. 67% attribute positive effects on the quality of life to tourism - 12% see no positive effects.

77% are proud that guests come to Tyrol to see what our province has to offer. 64% do not feel disturbed by tourists in their everyday lives - 15% do. 73% state that the traffic caused by visitors impairs their quality of life.

74% are of the opinion that the number of annual guests should remain the same, 18% think that fewer guests should come to Tyrol and 8% would like to see more guests in Tyrol. There are differences in the perception of tourism between the individual areas. Residents of intensive tourism areas have a more positive attitude overall, perceive greater benefits from tourism and feel less disturbed by tourists. Sustainability issues play a central role in the further development of tourism.
