F.acT: The Gondel Slam wanted to use a new format to discuss a new working culture and working environments. What were the most important findings?
Daniel Stock: Thanks to the large number of speakers and experts from the industry, the limited time in the gondola and the interesting topics, there was of course a lot of positive input and important insights that everyone was able to filter out for themselves.
The basic tenor of the Gondola Slam - more empathy and humanity in the workplace again and cooperation at eye level - employees, entrepreneurs and guests should always change their perspective and assess the situation from the other person's point of view in order to better understand the behavior of their counterpart. Training in various sectors also needs to be reformed or shortened - focus on the essentials, more practice, less theory! Away from perfectionism, 80% is the new 100% - focus on the positive things and don't hold employees accountable for every little thing. The 4-day week won't be a long-term solution either, because even 4 days in the wrong job won't satisfy employees in the long term. Only a fulfilling job in the right company with the right attitude will retain employees in the long term, ensure satisfaction and, as a result, greater productivity. In the future, the interplay of human performance and increasing digitalization, especially in the service sector, will also play a major role!
F.acT: What is needed now to implement these findings?
Daniel Stock: A key point in putting the insights and new ideas I've mentioned into practice is to call a spade a spade. More courage to be honest - address problems straight away and not put them away unanswered and put them off - even if the truth sometimes hurts. Act in a solution-oriented manner and waste less time on apportioning blame and possible culprits! True to the motto:
We are all in the same gondola! - We Are One!
Only together will we be able to create a positive change in the work and corporate culture! The image change is already underway, even if we still have some challenges ahead of us, we can already see positive developments and solutions. Only those who remain flexible and adapt quickly to future changes and market conditions will continue to be at the forefront. Topics such as digitalization, new work and sustainability will play a major role in the future. The world of work is currently changing, old structures are breaking down and new strategies and solutions are being developed!
We at GastroJam have set ourselves the task of developing cool projects to breathe new life into the job market in tourism, but also in general. It remains exciting in any case, a positive attitude to life and the courage to take risks are the basis for new and innovative working models.
F.acT: Will there be another edition of the Gondel Slam in 2023 or how do you want to develop the format further?
Daniel Stock: After the Gondola Slam is before the Gondola Slam! The format was really well received by our partners and guests and the feedback was very positive across the board. We're still in the middle of post-processing, but we're already thinking about what we can do better next year. We can definitely imagine extending the Gondola Slam to 2 or 3 days. Making the supporting program even more attractive and playing more with the change of perspective. This means emphasizing the role of employees, guests and entrepreneurs even more in the form of practical examples, i.e. a kind of role play or sketch in the gondola with employees, entrepreneurs and guests in order to better understand the change of perspective and the communication between the three players! We are already working on new ideas and improvements for next year and hope we can organize another Gondola Slam in the beautiful Zillertal in 2023.
