Austria in the tourism year 2023/24
Austria is characterized by a strong economic performance, which is reflected in a GDP per capita of € 52,760 and a stable population of 9.2 million. In Tirol, the domestic market plays a solid role: it ranks third in the guest mix in winter and second in summer, and 10% of all domestic trips lead to Tirol.
The summer season clearly dominates domestic tourism and is responsible for 57-58 % of overnight stays. However, winter also remains important.
In winter 2023/24, 602,363 arrivals (+4.6 %) and 1,725,628 overnight stays (+2.5 %) were recorded.
In summer 2024, 883,485 arrivals (-1.3 %) and 2,267,080 overnight stays (-1.8 %) were recorded.
In the tourism year 2023/24 as a whole, the Austrian market achieved 1,485,848 arrivals (+1.0 %) and 3,992,708 overnight stays (±0.0 %). The length of stay was 2.9 days in winter and 2.6 days in summer.
Austrian guests have a strong preference for upscale hotels and quality accommodation.
