ReMoDe

Resilience of destinations in the Alps and the Caucasus

ReMoDe (Building mountain destination crises resilience in the Alps and Caucasus) is a project that focuses on the crisis resilience of mountain destinations, which is necessary in view of the numerous challenges in tourism.

In cooperation with the University of Innsbruck and Tbilisi State University, the crisis resilience of the two mountain tourism destinations "Tourismusverband Mestia" in Georgia and "Tourismusverband Oberland - Erlebnisregion Kaunertal" in Austria is being investigated.

The main objective of the project is to develop a comprehensible resilience index that includes various indicators of the destinations. This index will serve as the basis for the development of a digital monitoring resilience platform (DRP), which will enable destination stakeholders to monitor their crisis resilience and related activities.

The approach of the project is participatory and actively involves mountain destination stakeholders from the beginning of the research phase. This is done through:

  • Stakeholder and institutional mapping.

  • The use of existing findings from a literature review.

  • Conducting secondary data analysis and focus group workshops with destination stakeholders to explore their needs, opinions and perceptions in depth.

The process of developing the Resilience Index is based on the integration of feedback from destination stakeholder representatives, both qualitative and quantitative. This includes the development of a data collection tool (survey), quantitative data collection and analysis, followed by qualitative data (focus groups) and their analysis. The results will be discussed with selected stakeholders in order to combine the data obtained and create a comprehensive resilience index.

Another important aspect of the project is knowledge sharing. The collected knowledge is shared via doctoral colleges at the participating universities, which ensures the exchange between participating doctoral students and coordinators.
