European Sustainability Congress 2021

The challenges of sustainable & resilient tourism of the future
The European Sustainability Congress took place on 23.09.21 as part of the three-day NECSTouR Annual General Meeting.

Creating improved recreational opportunities for future tourism - that was the aim of this year's conference at the NECSTouR Annual General Meeting. We were there and brought back some exciting topics from the conference, which we present briefly below.

Reducing global tourism emissions

Virginia Fernandez-Trapa from UN Tourism presented the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. The basic goal is to halve global tourism emissions within the next ten years and to achieve "net zero emissions" by 2050. So far, the drivers and signatories of this declaration are the UNWTO, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), etc. Interested organizations can still participate until October. The declaration will be published in November 2021.
