Project

European Tourism Sustainablity Monitoring (ETSM) 2030

The project, funded by the EU for three years (2023-2026) as part of the COSME call, aims to establish a network of tourism SMEs to improve sustainability monitoring through the joint development and implementation of sustainable innovation projects and by promoting participation in relevant sustainable certification schemes, in particular the EU Ecolabel and EMAS.

As part of ETSM2030, at least 80 SMEs will be selected through an open call in six EU countries to improve their sustainability performance. After an initial sustainability evaluation, their knowledge of sustainability monitoring and measures will be expanded through the development of a (self-assessment) sustainability monitoring tool. In mutual cross-border learning processes, the SMEs receive specific training and coaching on the topic of sustainability. Based on learning effects and the improvement of their sustainability performance, the SMEs are encouraged to apply for established sustainability certification schemes (EU standards) and to be part of the "SESTINE" network (Sustainability European SMTE Innovation Network of Excellence), an online collaboration platform that presents best practices for sustainability monitoring and innovation projects, shares them with the public and remains open for other European SMTEs to exchange knowledge and experience in the long term. The SMEs and Tourism team has the lead in this project.

More information on the content of the project and its progress will be made available on the ETSM website.
