The Family Business Center at the MCI Management Center Innsbruck under the direction of FH-Prof. Dr. Anita Zehrer contributes to sustainably securing and further increasing the economic strength of these owner-managed companies through research, teaching and further education. The center was originally founded in 2016 as a joint initiative of the MCI Management Center Innsbruck and the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce and will be continued as a separate Research Lab and Transfer Center at the MCI from July 2017.
Applied research projects on the topic of family businesses have been carried out since 2016. These include a baseline study on family businesses in Tyrol. Among those surveyed, 42% of these family businesses were from the tourism and leisure industry.

Other completed studies include the attractiveness of family businesses as employers and the image of the Bavarian hospitality industry.

Ongoing projects deal with topics such as innovation behaviour, strategic positioning, business succession, digitalization and social media. In addition, the strategic realignment of family-run tourism businesses is currently being investigated in East Tyrol.
