Quality of life survey Tirol 2021

The comprehensive "Quality of Life Study Tyrol 2021" shows that, on average, the Tyrolean population is satisfied to very satisfied with their quality of life, with economic factors in particular having a highly significant positive influence on this satisfaction. At the same time, according to the respondents, the greatest need for action in the future lies in the ecological/environmentally friendly development of the municipalities. The study provides detailed insights into satisfaction with various social, cultural and environmental factors, compares data with 2019 and highlights the importance of individual areas for the future quality of life.

The "Quality of Life Study Tyrol 2021" is a study conducted by Lebensraum Tirol Holding GmbH in cooperation with the Institute for Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism - SMEs & Tourism at the University of Innsbruck. The aim was to measure the satisfaction of the Tyrolean population with their quality of life as well as with specific economic, social, cultural and ecological factors.

The online survey was conducted from 08.04.2021 to 02.05.2021 and comprised a representative sample of 1,001 people from the Tyrolean population. The participants were 51.6% female and 48.4% male. The distribution of places of residence included larger cities such as Innsbruck (18.6%) and Kufstein (5.7%) as well as smaller municipalities. More than two thirds (66.4%) of respondents had lived in their municipality for over 15 years. In terms of educational attainment, 57.2% had completed a vocational secondary school, an apprenticeship or a compulsory school, while 18.5% had a university degree.

On average, Tyroleans were satisfied to very satisfied with their quality of life (mean 3.48 on a scale from 1=very dissatisfied to 5=very satisfied). Specifically, 56.3% of respondents stated that they were very satisfied or satisfied. The study divided the quality of life into the following four main areas:

Economic factors: satisfaction averaged 3.39. Respondents were particularly satisfied with the housing situation and local amenities (mean score of 3.69 in each case). They were less satisfied with the tourism factor for personal quality of life (mean score 2.77).

Social factors: With a mean value of 3.49, satisfaction was high. Healthcare was rated highest (mean 3.81), while community cohesion had the lowest level of satisfaction (mean 3.23).

Ecological factors: Satisfaction was at an average of 3.15. The highest satisfaction was found for air and water quality (mean 3.67) and recreational areas (mean 3.62). Traffic volume (mean value 2.65) and climate protection (mean value 2.80), on the other hand, had lower satisfaction values.

Cultural factors: With a mean value of 2.95, this area showed the lowest level of satisfaction compared to all other areas. Satisfaction with the political culture and cooperation (mean value 2.52) and the inclusion of a wide range of interest groups (mean value 2.81) was particularly low.

The respondents see a need for action for the future in all four areas. The greatest need for actionis seen in the ecological/environmentally friendly development of the municipalities (mean value 3.6 on a scale from 1=very weak need to 5=very strong need)
