The online and offline worlds are increasingly merging and forming a variety of connections. Augmented reality technologies, for example, place a layer "on top of reality" and add a digital layer to physical reality. This is accompanied by a new understanding of reality: it no longer distinguishes between "real" and "digital", but considers the interaction of both dimensions holistically.

More and more people do not want to be perceived as tourists, but as travelers. Tourists are excluded from authentic local everyday life and enclosed in the hermetically sealed world of the tourism industry. Travelers, on the other hand, discover the other, lively, real life in a foreign country and enter into resonance with it. This longing for authentic encounters is a key driver for travelers today and is changing tourism.

The return on capital or return on investment, abbreviated towww.bpb.de/kurz-knapp/lexika/lexikon-der-wirtschaft/20483/rentabilitaet/, relates the performance indicator (e.g. profit in the sense of reported net income before taxes or operating profit) to the production factor capital used; the higher the ratio, the better the return on capital and therefore the better the return.
